Safe Software is bringing together the best minds in the industry to build a world-class data integration tool – FME

Safe Software started from the bottom, literally. In 1993, Don Murray and Dale Lutz began the business in a basement. Their original plan helped forestry companies exchange maps with the provincial government. That’s when they realized that a significant amount of data was being lost in the process. Led by their desire to solve this problem, Don and Dale developed a powerful data integration tool: FME. The result is data processing made easy for anyone who has ever suffered a headache over lost data.

With their basement days behind them, the Safe Software team is now over a hundred brilliant minds strong. Based out of Surrey, BC, the company allows people to free their data. FME data integration software enables clients to combine all their software and get the most out of their data in convenient, visual ways. FME can connect applications, transform data’s structure and content, or automate any kind of data processing task. It all adds up to an easy workflow, and is done without any coding!

FME is dubbed the “Swiss army knife for your data,” allowing users to seamlessly move data across hundreds of formats and applications, like Twitter, Google Sheets and Apple Venue Format (AVF). FME works for and with you. Don and Dale invented a tool to make dealing with data easy, giving you more time to nap, ahem, be productive. They target solutions based on technology and / or by industry.

New software can be daunting, but Safe Software provides top-notch support: training videos, webinars and live online training. Their community includes a knowledge base, Q & A forum, FME hub and ideas exchange.

But this team doesn’t stop at technical support. Safe Software’s desire to help people is evident in the ways they reach out to users and the community. Check out their blog for helpful tips, a glimpse into their company culture, and to see how they use their platform to give back to the community. Sponsorship has included SFU’s Technovation Challenge, supporting young women in tech and STEM. Support of Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Champion of the Crescent Corporate Relay Challenge raised monies to support youth mental health. They’ve also been generous in helping us with our Driving WinTech World initiative. Safe Software makes a difference in more than just data integration.

Everyone knows that we are living in an increasingly tech-enabled world. Not surprisingly, this is reflected in the number of jobs that are now available in the tech industry. The problem is, while the Computer Science workforce has grown by 60% since 1991, the percentage of young women going into the industry has declined (Stats Canada 2011). This needs to change.
