Join Women in Tech World as they present Driving Women in Tech, a new and exciting initiative that will take Women in Tech World across Canada to gather information about women in the tech industry. The goal is to create an extensive report detailing the barriers and challenges that women in tech face, as well as their success stories while working in tech.

This free event provides an opportunity to have a conversation with the community, network, share your own experiences and hear from a panel of empowering women who want to empower others. The event takes place on Monday September 25, 2017, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CST at Innovation Place.

Participation requires completing a quick questionnaire and joining the Community Conversation. The total time of this event will be about two and a half hours.

This research activity is for anyone who self-identifies as a woman working in the tech industry (or recently left within the past five years), allies or advocates of women in tech and stakeholders in the tech industry (including government, non-profit, educational organizations or service providers).

The agenda will be as follows:

5:30-6:00 p.m. – Networking

6:00-6:30 p.m. – Panel of Trailblazing Women in Tech

6:30-7:50 p.m. – Research Activities: Community Conversation

7:50-8:00 p.m. – Closing Questions + Next Steps

This tour across Canada includes visits to over 30 cities, coast-to-coast, over 25 national and community partners (incubators, accelerators, tech companies and national sponsors), and 87 Kickstarter funders. With over 2,500 participants, Community Conversations will be booming and the panel of expert speakers is sure to inspire.

Women in Tech World, including their initiative Driving Women in Tech, aims to empower women in the tech field and to encourage young girls to enter this field. This organization, and their initiative, is about coming together to create an inclusive, diverse and positive environment where women can thrive within the tech field.

Everyone knows that we are living in an increasingly tech-enabled world. Not surprisingly, this is reflected in the number of jobs that are now available in the tech industry. The problem is, while the Computer Science workforce has grown by 60% since 1991, the percentage of young women going into the industry has declined (Stats Canada 2011). This needs to change.
